Crochet with OneSheepishGirl

bookcover of CROCHET WITH ONE SHEEPISH GIRL
I have long been a fan of crochet, so long I don't clearly recall learning how. I had a series of videos teaching the basics at The Crochet Crash Course a few years ago. It's sort of an obsession. So when I was given the chance to review Meredith Crawford's Crochet with OneSheepishGirl I jumped at it.
Beginning crochet books practically follow a formula. You learn a stitch. You do a project in the stitch. Almost always squares and rectangles. You might make a pot holder, but you will make a rectangular scarf and you will make a blanket. You'll almost certainly make a hat. Not with this book.
Oh there are cowls, even one made of granny squares, and a cute turban, if you want to count that as a hat, but you'll be making camera and tablet cases including lining them. You'll be making crochet muffins and lattes. You'll be embellishing sweaters, and cards and making little crochet boxes. Some of it is elegant. Some of it is silly. All of it is fun.
Her instructions are clear, comprehensive, and precise. Her ability to take what should be an intermediate to advanced project, and bring it down to the level of a raw beginner is astounding.
If you want to learn to crochet, if you've tried before and have had trouble, this is the book for you. If you're looking for a book for a younger student, something easy, something with small projects they can complete quickly and not get frustrated, this is the book you're looking for.
I received this book free from the Amazon Vine program in exchange for a review.

  1. This sounds great. My daughter wants to learn and it's been many years since I've made anything and I'm not the best teacher to begin with. These projects look like more fun than your traditional scarves and granny squares, too.
